Media and it's effect on the election - Martin & Leon

Fox:
Fox has over 2.4 million viewers during the evening, and is described as “Republican-friendly”, though their slogan is “fair and balanced”.
Fox has a grand focus on portraying Trump as a nice, fun guy to be around. Trump is described as the most lively one, while Clinton is more annoyingly portrayed, telling bad jokes. Fox´s political views influence the articles to talk positively about Trump and negatively about Hillary Clinton.

CNN:
1.22 million viewers during the evening, airing for 36 years. Is considered neutral, but seems to portray Trump as much worse than Hillary. CNN portrays Trump as a villain and tries to dig up all the dirt they can on him, to make him appear as wicked as possible, this due to their political views. It is important to take into consideration that Trump have said some pretty nasty things, which also influences what the most neutral news channels will write about him.

Huffington Post:
Launched in 2005 as a left-oriented alternative to the conservative “Drudge report” by Arianna Huffington. Due to their political views, Huff Post constantly criticize Trump and refers to Hillary as “on fire”, portraying her as funny, smart and a correct candidate to vote for as President.

The Hill:
A newspaper with around 5,5 million viewers on Facebook and Twitter is the largest neutral newspaper covering the election. The Hill was created in 1994 and has about 24 000 daily readers on paper. Their coverage of their election is impartial which is why its reader count is so consistent.

The Rush Limbaugh Show:
As the conservative as the radio host is, The Rush Limbaugh Show gathers among 13,2 million weekly listeners. Being considered one of Donald Trumps most important supporters, his word could potentially play a huge part in the Trump voters’ mind. Beyond that, the radio show might have an effect on the listeners who are still undecided. Other than that, The Rush Limbaugh Show doesn’t really make a difference.

National Public Radio (NPR):
Being a near national radio broadcaster, NPR is an organisation consisting of 900 local radiostations that run on listeners donations.  They are a fairly neutral station and their flagship is All Things Considered, which is USAs most popular radiostation with approximant ally 13,3 million weekly listeners.

9/11 a day we will never forget

9/11 is and will always be a memorable date for all of the humanity. The occurrences are unforgivable and unforgettable. Destroying the human view on Muslims, Al-Qaida performed an act of terror dividing the east and west. Even though Al-Qaida scared and hurt as many people as they did, New Yorkers, Americans, and the whole western world came together as one reuniting like never before, creating a friendship that could stand up to the terror and pain the world was and will be put through.
All Americans have a relationship with what happened that day. The day is a brand of happiness and sorrow. Honoring the people who lost their lives that day, all Americans share feelings and prove to the world that terrorism is possible to counter. Without letting it scare us in the long run, the terrorists are no longer winning.

We just watched a documentary called 9/11, which was originally made as a documentary about a boy becoming a man, Tony, who just got out of the school for becoming a fireman. The filming was in the beginning meant to be about Tony’s transition from “a boy to a man”, but turned in to a documentary about 9/11 as soon as the two planes hit the World Trade Center. Tony didn’t get that much trust and that many assignments, in the beginning, because of his lack of experience. But, 9/11 was definitely a turning point for him. The two planes hit WTC, and Tony was told that he should carry the fire station and not go to WTC, where all the other firemen were - until a retired fireman showed up. This guy brought Tony with him to help the other police, fire, and rescuemen. We saw real fotage from the hours and minutes just after the first plane crashed in the documentary, which made our experience much more interesting. The situation seemed very real, yet surreal and therefore the legitmate footage became very moving. We got a full view of what the situation was like before, during and after the fire department did their amazing job.

What can we learn from such horrible events as the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon? Have we showed the rest of the world that terrorism will never win, or have we lost by becoming scared and answering the attacks with more violence? Franklin Roosevelt said in 1933 “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself”. If we let the terrorists get to us, won´t that mean that they have already won?
The aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks meant a lot more security at airports, and a feeling of fear spreading across the entire western civilization. I believe the US acted wrongly after the 9/11 attacks, and milked the attacks to let them perform military operations in other countries, such as Afghanistan (2001) and Iraq (2003).
The US acting as a world police should have seen such attacks coming after treating the middle-eastern countries like trash for decades. Do not get me wrong, I do not condone terrorism and believe noone should have to go through what the people in Manhattan went through the infamous day. However, I think the US and the west had no right to create Israel, being a “big bully” to the Palestinians that had land where Israel lays today. The western countries showed the middle-eastern countries that they had absolutely no respect for them, creating enourmous conflicts between the middle-east and the west.

As a solution, I believe Israel shall cease to exist. I think no religion should get their own country preserved for them, just like I do not want it to be a Christian country or a Muslim country. I believe religion shall be a private matter, and that everyone can do what they like. France is a country I believe is doing the right thing, and is a country others should learn from.

IPN and our trip there - upcoming

IPN Is a global network of business and education, working a lot with community organizations in partnership to achieve both social and economical benefits.
My International English class is going to the 13th International education business Partnership Conference (IPN) in Lillestrøm. The conference is from the 14th to the 16th of September. There, we will listen to conferences and present how we learn through using communicative technologies.
We will talk about our experiences attending Sandvika vgs, a school that is advanced in its learning ways, using several medias as learning platforms. We are currently attending vg2, and spent a lot of 1st grade using tehcnological devices to broaden our learning oppurtunities. We also have had the chance to take Information Technology (IT) as an oppurtunitive class, a class many students have both chosen and enjoyed the first weeks. The class is extremely popular, though girls are underrepresented with 80% (approx.) in the class being boys. Attending the conference, Ellen Therese Rasmussen is representing Union Consult on the the topic girls and technology.
After our presentation, the winner of the IPN International enterprise challenge will be announced. The contest is for high school teams, and was founded in 2000. The contest has been held in many different countries, such as Scotland, Canada and South Africa, with participants from all over the world. The award is presented by NASA.

Describing themselves as “The community for science education in Europe”, is Scientix a part of the main frame of European Education. The community promotes and supports collaboration across Europe for STEM and STEM education professions. STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

We are excited to meet and listen to the former NASA astronaut Richard Hieb. His experience and expertice within the aerospace industry is something we find interesting, and we are really looking forward to his speech at the International education business Partnership Conference in Lillestrøm, 16.September 2016. He will be talking about the role of space exploration in inspiring the engineers and scientists of the future, accommodated by engineer and NASA scientist, Sue Lederer. Hieb graduated from Jamestown High School, Jamestown, North Dakota, in 1973. Where he received a bachelor of arts degree in math and physics from Northwest Nazarene College in 1977, and a master of science degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Colorado in 1979. After graduating from the University of Colorado Mr. Hieb went straight to NASA to work. He has logged over 750 hours in space, including 17 hours of space walk.

Climate issues and how we are able to solve them (or at least try to)

Throughout the world, we are currently going through climate changes that dramatically change the world. We have reports that the polar circles have been affected like no time before. While they are melting countries in the Middle East have experienced extremely high temperatures. So high that people in countries like Kuwait will soon have to move. Finding a solution to this problem is difficult, however, there are several options.

We often speak of cutting CO2 emissions which is a very long process and might lead to these high temperatures in countries like Kuwait. David Keith, an environmental scientist, has suggested that we use Geoengineering. A quick fix that could simply extend our time for a short period or so. Questions of whether there are major side effects or not are often asked, but we have no sure answer to what the side effects really are yet. The solution seems like a good bet, but many think the result will be ignorance towards the real and long-time issues that we are facing, reducing the CO2 levels in the atmosphere. On the other hand, Geoengineering is a cheap solution, costing only a few percent of GDP, which seems appealing.

To use Geoengineering correctly, we should consider adding laws that stop other countries from abusing this environmental force that could be very helpful, yet dangerous. The option should be spoken  about publicly, but as stated previously the option might lead to a new look on the issues and might distract people from believing that it's a real threat.

Depending on which candidate (Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton) gets elected, we will see outcomes that might prevent or ensure an environmentally healthy future for the world. Their looks on the general part of politics are not that different, however, their view upon the environmental issues. Trump believes that the climate changes are inexistent and that they mean no real threat to society or this world. Meaning that if Trump is elected Geoengineering and other solutions to this very real issue might not ever be set in motion. Clinton, on the other hand, is seemingly interested in the issues and believes a solution is needed, immediately. Therefore, electing Hillary would be the option that is the most sensible option for the environment.

Norway uses 26 494 kWh per citizen, which is extreme. Although we use an incredible amount of electricity, but 99% of all energy in Norway comes from water energy. The high waterfalls in Norway give excellent opportunities for producing energy and it is very environmentally friendly. Our largest export is oil, in the northern seas, there has been many oil findings, which has brought Norway out of poverty and making it one of the richest countries in the world. The repercussions of this is increasing oil to the word trade, and having a huge impact on CO2 releases around the entire globe.

Taking a step back and looking at the big picture most people would say that trying our best to sustain against the environmental troubles that are to come and we are facing. With political help, the case would be much easier to solve, but a lot is depending on which candidate is elected. Solutions are able to be made. A quick fix like Geoengineering could be set in motion while we slowly, but surely cut our emissions of CO2 it's likely we might survive. While that might be a solution we might end up going for a whole other route. Trump gets elected and decides for the world that we are supposed to sit back and hope for the best and it could work, but all research points towards choosing that solution we will simply end up in a horrific way. Norway is a great example for a country that is getting better with their main electricity coming from water energy, but with their largest export being oil for world trade. Simple adjustments could be made (contracts that ensure that the oil isn't used for something is harmful to the environment or the sale of oil is limited to specific amounts per month, week or year) that could make Norway's energy fully renewable.

The greater the struggle the more glorious the triumph

Throughout the film The Butterfly Circus, we meet the actor Nick who plays the role of a limbless circus actor. An actor performing to gain while feeling a loss. While he might seem happy later on in the movie, Nick had a rough start. At the beginning, we meet The limbless man. A man disowned by God, a man who barely is a man. The circus manager for The Butterfly Circus appears to be a great man in the film. He fronts himself with sayings such as If you could only see the beauty that comes from ashes and The greater the struggle the more glorious the triumph.  He seems like a wise and understanding man. Now, these quotes are quite direct towards the situation that Nick faces in the film. Nick achieves great accomplishments and nearing the end of the film he seems to be at the peek of his life. He truly reaches above and beyond every expectatins.

Civil Rights Movement

Last English class, we watched a film about how the white affected the change of equality in Mississipi. The movie is called Mississipi Burning and is to some degree a film filled with propaganda. Throughout Mississipi Burning, there are several moments when the black people are continually saved by the white and great people. So I felt the urge to tell you about the Civil Rights Movements. A series of political events that represented equality before the law.

There have been several leaders over the years of the Civil Rights movement, but one to note especially is Martin Luther King Jr. He's one of the most well-known advocates of the Civil Rights movement. His primary goal was to obtain equal rights for the black population as the white. The white at this point ruled every community known to man in America. They were the law, it's protectors and the people who made sure everyone obeyed it. With force, the white people ensured their power by just making sure every black man, woman, and child were too afraid to stand up against the higher hierarchy.
